These notes are smaller and stronger than the cotton-based paper notes and have more security features as well.
After doing away with a huge section of India's currency during the recent demonetisation, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is now planning on introducing a new Rs 10 currency note. The new Rs 10 bank notes will be a polymer-based to make it more durable and harder to counterfeit. It will be introduced after conducting a five-city trial of the note.
The older versions of the Rs 10 notes will not be scrapped.
The trials for a billion 10-rupee plastic notes would be conducted in the following five cities due to their geographical and climatic diversity:
- Kochi
- Mysore
- Jaipur
- Shimla
- Bhubaneswar
